Science Meets Art
The idea of art as a platform for political and social commentary is not new, but can art present science? And without the use of PowerPoint? In collaboration with students from LaSalle College of the Arts, SWB students produced an interactive installation art work that represented some of the research on money and happiness. This partnership was truly a clash of two worlds. The partnership required the students to become ‘bilingual’ to be able to integrate the two fields. SWB students had to communicate the science to non-scientists and be receptive to creative elements while remaining true to the science. The final product was a full-day installation outside the SMU Li Ka Shing Library. Over 100 people visited the exhibit, some students some not, and interacted with the art piece.
